The Finlay Cowan Summer Workshops 2007
Workshops: led by Finlay Cowan. Each workshop will be strictly limited to allow for 'hands on' involvement and focused advice from Finlay and his special guests, chosen from each field. Workshops will be spread over three nights on consecutive weeks and each will be divided into lectures, Q and A, exercises and analysis.
Price: 3 evenings for £250 (£125 students): 6.30 - 9.00pm.
Location: The Lyceé, an elegant converted schoolhouse near Oval tube, London (view map).

1) Album Sleeve Design
Citing examples from Finlay's work with Storm Thorgerson for Pink Floyd, Muse, Audioslave, Janes Addiction, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Mars Volta, The Rolling Stones, Ween and others. The sessions will also take in print advertising, merchandise and branding for the music business. |

2) Fantasy Art and Book design
Citing examples from Finlay's four books on Fantasy Art instruction and his bookcovers for Will Self and others. Sessions will include instruction on creating fantasy illustrations from concept to final art and advice on research, inspiration and technique. There will also be a focus on portfolio presentation, pitching book ideas, working with publishers and more about the industry. |

3) Film & TV: Story and design development
Citing examples of development work for the BBC and design work for Oliver Stones production of 'Alexander' this workshop will cover everything from storyboarding, set and costume design to developing and designing your own treatments how to present them and how to pitch them. A detailed and unflinching look at how to get into the industry. |
